Love God. Love people. Reach the community.

Ghana

Jesus sent us not just to Milton Keynes and Britain, but also to The Nations (Acts 1 v8). In our case God has clearly opened up a door to Ghana, which has been underlined in a prophecy to Andy & Gilbert by Bryn Franklyn this September whilst in Ghana and confirmed by Barney Coombs on the same trip.

1) SPRINGHOUSE CHAPEL INTERNATIONAL in Accra

Cephus & Mike are key men in Ghana’s national media and have used Gilbert & Andy to preach the Gospel in Ghana & West Africa. They have also taken Barney Coombs’ TV series on the Gifts & Fruit of The Holy Spirit (much more as well) and begin running this in October 2012.

On top of this Cephus & Mike are always opening doors to churches and other areas in Ghana that are in need, doing great schools works in their own time, and supplying Incubators to hospitals across Ghana.

2) ST STEPHENS MEDICAL CENTRE in Swedru

The Centre is run by Eddie who is a church leader & laboratory technician and started in August 2011. In the first month even before opening they saw 105 people desperate for Aids testing and the like. By September 2012 they are now seeing over 1000 people every single month serving a huge population, with people coming from as far as Accra just to get medical care. Swedru and the surrounding area has a poor population that need all the help they can get, and Eddie and his team of 3 people (including himself) are doing a great job.

Of the 1000 people per month – 350 would be coming for Aids Testing and 20% of these would prove positive for HIV (70 people per month). The rent for the whole centre premises is £55 per month.

Eddie & Linda (wife) have also started a church in Swedru to work alongside the medical centre.

NEEDS: There is a real need for additional medical equipment and eventually the goal is a purpose built Christian hospital to serve the community. The detailed equipment list is available. All donations are welcome.

3) BETTYKED PREPARATORY SCHOOL

In 2005 Betty who was working in a service job in the UK, believed that God told her to go home to Ghana and start a school in Tema in the poor outskirts of Accra. Betty & her son Frank bought a house in Tema and even slept in the open air at nights for several years (being bitten by mosquitoes) while building works were being done just to start this school. Betty now has 12 staff and an old van with which she picks up all 167 children (ages 2 -12 years) from their poor homes. They are given a good education as well as being taught the Bible.

The school has been so successful that they have been told that they have to move to a bigger site by the Education Authorities, and then Betty can have her own home back! Through donations they have been able to purchase land for this and have laid the foundations but nothing else.

Eleanor Cusdin has spent a good time working there as well.

NEEDS: Money is needed to complete the building of the new school, and all donations are welcome.

4) SHARE FOUNDATION (Reading Charity)

Having studied at Glasgow University around the year 2000 Lilly went home to Ghana and sadly had a bad car accident that left her paralysed from the waist down. Instead of doing nothing, she approached some sea freight shipping companies and asked for them to donate shipping containers which she has turned into reading rooms. So far there are two of these, and many children that could not read have been taught to do so. Some of these older children are now teaching the younger children in their own time.

NEEDS: The need for good books for the Library’s/Reading Rooms is constant. Both books and finances are well used and a constant need. Lilly wants to open up many more of these container Libraries/reading Rooms which are situated in local schools with the strong backing of Head Teachers. All donations welcome.

5) Northern Ghana Churches (Tamale & Bolgatanga)

Fifteen years ago Pastor Joseph gave up everything to plant churches in villages in the very hot North of Ghana where most people do not want to go. So far he has planted seven churches and given four away to other pastors. He still works with three churches himself all of which are extremely poor. A good month’s offering between all three churches would be £7, off which Joseph and his wife have to live. They have no house, and sleep in church building to avoid the heat & mosquitoes etc.

With the donations given by individuals, Joseph has so far built 6 large mud based church buildings with congregations of around 80 to 100 people. Joseph spends hours of time preaching the Gospel publically for villagers who are practising sorcery, etc.

Joseph is always building church buildings and practically helping others. Food is a real issue and finance is a genuine need. All donations are welcome.

6) TV & Radio Ministries

Cephus & Mike are key men in Ghana’s national media and have used Gilbert & Andy to preach the Gospel in Ghana & West Africa. They have also taken Barney Coombs’ TV Series on the Gifts & Fruit of The Holy Spirit (much more as well) and begin running this in October 2012.

On top of this Cephus & Mike are always opening doors to churches and other areas in Ghana that are in need, doing great schools works in their own time, and supplying Incubators to hospitals across Ghana.

7) STREET ORPHANS

Gilbert has not only worked for many years with The Share Foundation Reading Project & Bettyked School, but also with Pastor Kofi and the street orphans. This is a fantastic work and Pastor Kofi was himself a street orphan who was rescued and restored. Kofi explained to me how he went back to the streets with little success until he dressed again in the rags he once knew, which was a painful thing for him to do. The results have been superb with five orphans helped from the streets (financed by Gilbert and others), three of whom are now preaching in the villages around Accra, putting those saved in local churches. The other two are in higher education. All this is the work of one dedicated man, along with the likes of Gilbert meeting the bills etc.

Pastor Kofi would now like to start again with more orphans as he now has the rescued and restored guys as a team who know what to do. All this needs financing of course.

All donations are welcome.
